Local Area

A car is essential for getting out and about, although there are some buses. There are a couple of tavernas only 2 minutes up the road in the old village of Porta. The villages of Kassiopi, Avlaki, Agios Stefanos and Kerasia, are a 10-minute drive and the pretty bay of Kouloura is only a 15-minute drive away as are the gorgeous bays of Kalami and Agni.

Sinies supermarket is a  5 minute drive away at the bottom of the hill. They will deliver groceries to the villa and you can order fresh meat and fish from them.  Kassiopi is a delightful and busy harbour village, with plenty of tavernas, bars and shops to explore.

This beach is approximately 7 minutes drive from the house and it has a sailing/windsurfing school, sunbeds and umbrellas to hire. It also has a couple of very good tavernas. If you walk across the headland from the end of the beach car park you will come to a very quiet little pebble beach. The water is very clear and there is good snorkelling around the rocks.

Coyevinas Beach
This is between Kassiopi and Avlaki. It is a very quiet pebble beach with very few buildings, no taverna, but has a few sunbeds for hire. Kassiopi is an approximate 25-minute walk from here.

Immerolia Beach
Is just the other side of Kassiopi, going north, it is a nice pebble beach and behind it, there is a very good fish taverna

North of Kassiopi you will find this sandy beach, which is shallow and safe for young children. It is a pretty beach and has several tavernas behind it and also has umbrellas and sunbeds.

Arillas Is just around the corner from Aghios Spridon. You can walk around the headland in-between, which is a nature reserve.  It is another sandy beach,  very long and continues down to Acharavi . This beach is on the north coast of Corfu.

Aghios Stefanos
Just around the headland from Avlaki you will find the very picturesque bay of Aghios Stefanos, it has several very good tavernas and a beach, but you can also walk around the headland and find hidden little bays with beaches to swim from.

To get to this beach takes approx 10 minutes by car, it is directly below the villa and you look down into this bay from the sitting room patio.  It is an attractive pebble beach with just one Taverna. It has sunbeds and umbrellas, there are very few buildings making this another very lovely setting.

Kouloura and Kalami
Both approximately 10 minutes drive south down through Vigla, Kouloura is a very pretty bay with a small stony beach and a quaint tavern sits just above the small harbour at one end. There is a very lovely coastal walk between Kouloura and Kerasia (approx 25 mins) with rock bathing along the way.

Kalami
Is next door to Kouloura, the next bay along, it has a long pebble beach and several tavernas (including the White House) which is meant to be one of the houses where the Durrells lived during their 5 years stay on the island of Corfu. The harbour is very picturesque and you can easily while away a few hours in one of the many bars and tavernas around the harbour watching the coming and going of the boats.
